World Diabetes Day -14th November 2017 Suraksha Diagnostic Center, leading Diagnostic Center of Eastern India, in an effort to promote healthy lifestyle, organized a Diabetics Awareness Camp today. The programme was conducted to mark World Diabetes Day which is celebrated on 14th November every year. The camp was inaugurated by Smt Tulsi Sinha Roy, Councilor Bidhan Nagar Municipality, Mr. Debasish Basu, Newsreader & Anchor and Dr. Somnath Chatterjee, Director Suraksha Diagnostic.
This year the theme for "World Diabetes Day"is 'Women and diabetes- Our right to a healthy future'.Keeping the theme in mind and to create more awareness on women as well as others, Suraksha Diagnostics had conducted a special Yoga Session followed by free Diabetics Check up camp. More than 200 people from different walks of life participated in this camp. Dr. Partha Sarathi Mandal, Consultant- Diabetology and Dr. Deblina Chatterjee, Dietitian interacted and enlightened those present about diabetes and how one can take measures to control it.
Commenting on the occasion Dr. Partha Sarathi Mandal said, "Diabetes is a silent killer because the disease often does not show any significant symptoms; it comes into the notice of the patient and his physician at a point when nothing can be done to undo the damage. According to the International Diabetes Federation Atlas an estimated 69.2 million Indians are diabetic and it will increase day by day. Diabetes is one of the most talked about diseases in India but awareness about the same can well be estimated by the fact that India today has more people with type 2 diabetes and many people are not aware they are diabetic."
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Somnath Chatterjee, Director, Suraksha Diagnostic Center, said, "Diabetes, especially Type 2, is a lifestyle disease and it grips people who live a sedentary lifestyle. Especially those with a family history of the disease are more prone to get affected easily. We would like to appeal to everyone to be aware so that necessary steps can be taken to control it. Something as simple as a daily brisk walkor yoga/exercise can help you live healthier life. Keeping this in mind, we have conducted this camp to fight against the disease on World Diabetes Day, to make people aware."
